Types of child support

Sort out your own child support payments with the other parent or carer, or we can manage them for you.

If your child support type does not suit you, you can usually change to a different option.

Private agreements Sort out your own child support payments without us being involved. This is the most flexible type of child support and the easiest to set up.
Voluntary agreements You and the other parent or carer agree on a child support amount, and we collect it and pass it on for you.
Formula assessments Apply through us, and we'll use the child support formula to work out who pays child support, and how much. Unlike private and voluntary agreements, if you have a formula assessment you cannot decide the amount of child support payable.
Court orders and domestic maintenance If your child support or domestic maintenance payments are set by court order, we can collect and pass them on. If you and the other person decide on an amount of domestic maintenance, you can also register this with us.
